Unified communications and collaboration (UC&C) made its debut more than a decade ago but, until recently, adoption lagged and UC&C failed to deliver on its promise of transforming how businesses communicate, collaborate, work, and share information. UC&C is now gaining more and more ground in the enterprise especially as UC is more readily accessible via the Cloud as UCaaS.

UCaaS delivers flexibility, advanced collaboration and enables best of breed solutions to be accessed by the end user. Conservative estimates predict that the UCaaS market size is expected to grow from USD 17.35 Billion in 2016 to USD 28.69 Billion by 2021. In this blog we will cover the top reasons UCaaS is gaining more momentum in the enterprise….

Millennials in the workplace

UCaaS is thriving because the influx of millennials in the workplace or Generation C is demanding a multi-channel communication environment that UCaaS cost effectively provides. Taher Behbehani, CMO at cloud-based unified communications provider BroadSoft, believes UCaaS is a trend driven largely by the influx of millennials in the workplace and by the shift to the cloud.

“For millennials, which is the largest proportion of today’s workforce, it’s the type of multi-channel communication they thrive on — messaging, team work spaces, screen sharing, video, and even voice. The challenge is to make UC accessible for everyone and help to integrate UC services across devices so that it doesn’t hamper productivity, but instead enhances it,” Behbehani says.

Enterprises need to be constantly up to date with unified communications in order to attract the right talent. Demands will only continue to grow with a new generation of workers.

Mobility

The Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) market is set to expand by 2024 due to increased enterprise mobility, according to Transparency Market Research.

While mobility is not a required element of an UC&C offering, the proliferation of mobile devices and the BYOD phenomenon, coupled with the fact that workers are more mobile and distributed than ever before, mean that demand for mobile collaboration has skyrocketed as enterprises look for mobile UC as a key component of an UCaaS solution.

Collaboration Tools

Cloud-based UC solutions help enhance collaboration between employees and improve productivity within an organisation. Data can be shared instantly between employees, across departments and office locations. Having the same information accessible by all employees makes it easier for everyone to be on the same page and operate more efficiently, especially when it comes to operations, training, product launches and company updates.

Video, Video, Video

Video conferencing plays a big role in how companies now conduct business and manage resources. Simple video solutions, like one touch dialing or set up, can reduce travel expenses while increasing productivity. Many enterprises find video conferencing to be an acceptable alternative to in-person meetings especially with features like multichannel capability, advanced meeting controls and easy interoperability. Cloud-based solutions such as Skype for Business eliminate the need for complex hardware and require fewer technical components.

Low cost of ownership

Adoption of UCaaS solutions across various industries has been found to be down to the low total cost of ownership (TCO) and major advancements in cloud communication platforms. Recent research from Nemertes shows that cloud-based unified communications is more cost-effective than ever before.

As communication needs continue to evolve, businesses will invest more into UCaaS solutions. Gaining more and more ground in the enterprise market, many businesses have only scratched the surface of what’s possible with UCaaS. As an industry leader, SIPCOM’s cloud communications platform meets the UC&C demands with best in class integration and features.
